Remote Monitoring Now Available on Automated Electric Gates

Since the outset of H.B. Paynter Gates Ltd we have strived to provide the best possible automated gate systems to our customers with reliability and safety our prime consideration

To achieve this we have actively sought ways of utilising new technology and have embraced any developments from the manufacturers.  We have always used low voltage installations with self-learning and obstacle detection to give the safest end product with a by product being a smooth and controlled leaf motion with slow down periods and no clattering.  Recent years have seen vast improvements in technology with fine control and programming of all parameters and diagnostics to simplify fault finding.  These improvements have undoubtedly allowed us to install to a higher standard with tidier and quicker installations.

Sadly, even with the best equipment, installed to the highest standard there may from time to time be problems, whether it be physical damage, environmental influences or equipment malfunction.  Of course, we are happy to rectify any issues and maintain your automation for you whether it is within the warranty period or 10 years into its service life.  It is however an inconvenience to have your gates not working correctly, even for the shortest period and there is always the chance of a callout as a result of a false alarm such as foliage growing or debris in the path of the gate which is why we have chosen to introduce a remote monitoring and diagnostic option to all of our installations.

All of our new installations* are programmed using an O-view handheld device.  It is this device that allows us to fine tune the operation of your gates, set various behaviours and check the status of every piece of equipment in use.  With the addition of a GSM module to this O-view we can connect the gate to the mobile network and securely access the exact same information remotely from any PC connected to the internet and with even more visual references.

What this means to you, the end user, is a revolutionised engineer response and the potential to save money.  On discovering a potential issue, you can call through and speak to an engineer who will log into your gate system and begin searching for problems.  The first stage is to check the status of all of the devices to ensure they are working correctly.  We can operate the gates as if stood on site and monitor everything from the safety beam status to the motor torque and temperature.  If all seems ok, we have access to a data log that shows every command, movement or error that has happened within a given period.  Once the problem is evident, it may be possible to make programming changes to resolve the issue, bypass a device that is stopping the gates from working (as a temporary fix until an engineer is available) or point you in the right direction to identify and environmental factor that may be easily resolved without the need for a visit.

Where is the money saving you may ask?  A large percentage of callout visits to site are as a result of environmental factors such as dirt on the safety beam lenses, foliage blocking the beam or debris in the way of the gate leaf.  We do usually allow for a period of adjustment for any new customer, but there comes a time when we do have to charge a fee for visits to rectify these issues and they may be as simple as a snip of a branch or a wipe of a lens.  We can see remotely what the issue may be and ask you to check closely for these obstructions.  In addition we can monitor the gate usage to tailor your service requirements.  Every installation gets used to a different extent and you may not need the manufacturer recommended six month servicing!

The winning factor for us is to be able to resolve issues quickly for our customers.  We know the importance of automated gates and want to keep our customers happy and secure.
